Eric Burdon (Newcastle/GB, 5/04/41, vocais), Alan Price (County Durham/GB, 19/04/42, teclados), Bryan Chandler (Chas, Newcastle/GB, 18/12/48, baixo), John Steel (Gateshead/GB, 4/02/41, bateria) e Hilton Valentine (North Shields/GB, 21/05/43, guitarra) formam o Animals em 63 - Com o segundo single, "House Of The Rising Sun", chegam ao topo da parada norte-americana - Alan Price é substituído por Dave Rowberry (Newcastle/GB, 27/12/43, teclados) em Animal Traeks (65) - Em 66, Steel sai, cedendo lugar para Barry Jenkins (Leicester/GB, 22/12/44, bateria). Terão mais dois hits nesse ano: "Don´t Bring Me Down" e "See See Rider" - Pouco antes do lançamento de Animalisms, o grupo se desintegra. Será reformado como Eric Burdon & The New Animais, com Jenkins, Johnny Weider (Shepherd´s Bush/GB, 21/04/47, guitarra), Vic Briggs (Twickenham/GB, 14/02/45, guitarra) e Danny McCullough, Londres/GB, 18/07/45,baixo) - Winds Of Change (67) traz o hit "San Francisco Nigths" - Depois do lançamento de Twain..., em 68, Briggs e McCullough são substituídos por Zoot Money (teclados) e Andy Summers (guitarra -> Police). O álbum seguinte, Every One..., traz o último hit dessa fase, "White Houses". O grupo se separa após o lançamento de Love Is, em 69 - Em 76, a formação original volta a se reunir e grava Before... - Fizeram outro breve retorno em 83 com os LPs Ark e Rip It... (ao vivo). FRASES: "Eu deixaria as drogas ou as mulheres acabarem comigo. Mas eu nunca deixaria que a indústria musical fizesse isso."
